| Guipure
It is not really known exactly when guipure was first developed. Guipure laces from as early as the 14th century have been discovered. Also known as French bobbin lace and Filet lace, English made guipure originates from the 1860's.
It is a needle lace, made by darning a pattern onto a mesh or net which is then cut or burnt away leaving just the design. Original production in Nottingham was inspired by the designs of 16th century English bobbin lace. Guipure was also later made in Belgium and France. Designs remain unchanged since the mid-19th century. All guipure lace edgings available on our site are suitable for doll and bear costumes, authentic antique costuming, heirloom sewing and 1:12th scale doll's house projects.
